Forty years of working directly with Aboriginal artists gives Japingka unusual authority. Co-directors David Wroth and Ian Plunkett — both present since the gallery's Desert Designs origins in the 1980s — hold around 2,800 works in stock across two floors of an 1890s Fremantle warehouse. Upstairs galleries rotate new exhibitions; downstairs runs a broad permanent cross-section. Membership of the Indigenous Art Code means provenance is traceable.
