Set on Hollings Road just across from the Denmark River, this is a genuine independent bookshop with a cafe threaded through it. The shelves carry a handpicked, wide-ranging selection rather than bestseller stacks, and the room is built for lingering: cosy nooks, a chesterfield, a pot-belly stove for winter and a dog-friendly garden out the back. Coffee is poured from 8am alongside herbal teas, chai, milkshakes and fresh juices, with house-made croissants, toasties, wraps, sandwiches, cakes and pastries. Local artwork rotates on the walls, and it functions as much as a town gathering point as a retailer. It remains one of the few places in the district where you can browse books slowly and eat well under the one roof.
