Mohamed Beyan was separated from his family fleeing Addis Ababa and reached a Kenyan refugee camp alone at fourteen, where he opened his first restaurant. Years after arriving in Australia, he opened African Village in Torrensville, cooking Ethiopian food meant to be shared from a single plate and hosting the traditional coffee ceremony, with green beans roasted fresh. His African grocery and spice shop is nearby on Henley Beach Road.
