Spread over more than 250 hectares on the shore of Upper Spencer Gulf at Port Augusta, this garden is devoted entirely to Australia's arid-zone plants, from the eremophilas and saltbush to the drought-hardy species of the dry interior. Walking tracks wind through recreated desert habitats out to the mangroves and mud-flats along the gulf, with the Flinders Ranges on the horizon. A visitor centre, cafe and shop sit at the entrance. Established in the 1990s and open daily from 7:30am to sunset, free to enter.
