The 1891 shearers' strike that helped birth the Australian Labor Party is the animating event here. Spread across two hectares of landscaped grounds around a bored-fed billabong, the centre houses 14 buildings and 22 displays — among them the original Australian Workers Union Hall, a one-teacher schoolhouse, and a young ghost gum descended from Barcaldine's famous Tree of Knowledge.
