The S.S. Walrus ran aground on the Albert River in 1884, leaving behind a copper pot still and — eventually — Australia's oldest registered distillery. That same still operates today inside the original Big Red Shed on Distillery Road. Queensland molasses ferments for several days before a 12-hour run through the 15,000-litre copper pot. Some spirit rests in old brandy vats for up to 15 years.
