In the winter of 1957 there were two buildings in Thredbo, and Kornel and Suzie Deseo, Hungarians who had arrived in 1950, put their savings into a third. He had been a lawyer at home and could not practise here, but he could ski. A Hungarian builder put it up to an Austrian's design and it opened at Easter 1958, the first commercial lodge in the village. Third owners now, and a gondola on the ceiling in reception.
