Charleston itself is classic Hills country: cool-climate, orchard-dotted, the kind of landscape that rewards a slow drive rather than a direct one. It's worth treating a visit here as an excuse to loop through the wider Adelaide Hills rather than a there-and-back errand — bring an esky, wear something you don't mind getting stained, and leave the dog at home, as pets aren't permitted in the orchard. What you take away is simple: a full basket, sun on your shoulders, and cherries that were on the tree an hour before they're in your mouth.
