Australia's oldest continuously running Indigenous art centre has reinvented itself several times over. The Pukatja community craft room of 1948 — originally producing hand-loomed fabrics and knotted rugs — moved through batik silks, then ceramics, which now define the centre internationally. Senior women recently began depicting Tjukurpa, sacred stories of Country. The medium keeps shifting; the cultural ownership never has.
