Held every Saturday morning on the riverside lawns of the Brisbane Powerhouse at New Farm, this is the flagship of the markets founded by Jan Power, who ran Brisbane's first farmers market in the 1990s. It has operated here since the old power station reopened as an arts venue in 2000. Stalls run from fruit and vegetables to seafood, meat, artisan cheese and smallgoods, handmade pasta and bread, with hot food and coffee for those eating on the spot. It trades from 6am to noon, draws thousands each week, and sits beside New Farm Park with the CityCat stopping close by. Growers and makers sell direct, which is the point: a weekly connection between Brisbane eaters and south-east Queensland producers rather than a general retail market.
