Josef Selway Bootmaker

Brisbane, Queensland

Brisbane, Queensland

Claimed by the owner

Josef Selway is a bespoke shoemaker and bootmaker working from his Brisbane atelier. Each pair is made for one client, beginning with measurement and the development of an individual last, then progressing through pattern making, fitting, hand-welting and finishing. There is no ready-to-wear range and no standard sizing. The shape, fit and construction are developed around the wearer.

A Churchill Fellowship enabled Josef to travel overseas to deepen his training in Japanese and English traditions of bespoke shoemaking. Today, he brings that knowledge into a one-maker practice where each client's last is developed, refined and retained for future pairs.

Do you sell ready-to-wear shoes?
No. Every pair is made bespoke for an individual client, beginning with measurements and the development of a personal last.
What happens at a first appointment?
The first consultation is an opportunity to discuss fit, style and requirements. For an order, detailed measurements are taken and the process of developing your individual last begins.
How long does a bespoke pair take?
A bespoke commission typically takes around 8 to 12 months and includes the development of an individual last and at least one fitting before the final pair is made.
How much does bespoke footwear cost?
