The Whitsunday region's history museum, on Proserpine's main street and run entirely by volunteers. Its collection of photographs, documents and artefacts traces the area from its first peoples, the Juru, Gia, Bira and Ngaro, through the European cane pioneers to the post-war settlers, with a theatre screening local-history films. The society behind it publishes a long-running local-history magazine, and the museum has won the Whitsunday Heritage and Cultural Tourism Award three times and entered the regional Tourism Hall of Fame.
