Scott McGregor raised a flag on a burnt granite ridge above Mudgee at dawn on 22 December 1980. The first carriage — an 1890 first-class sitting car in teak, cedar and pitch pine — was craned up the mountain thirteen months later, and four more followed over the next decade, along with a station built from the parts of demolished ones. Five restored carriages across 20 hectares, let as a single booking.
