:

James Barnet designed the light at Smoky Cape, finished in 1891 and still the highest in New South Wales, on a range above Hat Head's beaches on Dunghutti country. The keeper's cottage runs as a three-room bed and breakfast; two further cottages are self-contained and sleep eight. The headland reads the ocean both ways — north and south — and in winter the whales pass below. Five kilometres from South West Rocks.
