Founded in 1895, AGWA occupies three heritage buildings in Perth's Cultural Centre, including the former Perth Police Courts. The main gallery, opened in 1979, draws on the pavilion-and-courtyard logic of Mexico City's Museum of Anthropology. The permanent *I AM* gallery focuses on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander work from the State Art Collection. Free guided tours run regularly.
