The Lookout CaveUnderground Motel

Cut by hand into a sandstone hillside above Coober Pedy, these rooms and self-contained apartments reach as much as twenty-five metres below the surface, staying cool and quiet while the outback bakes outside. The property sits on an elevated lookout, with rooftop seating for the town's long sunsets and star-heavy night skies. Apartments have their own entrances and reverse-cycle air; motel rooms keep it simple with fans and bar fridges. Independently owned, it closes briefly over the peak of summer.
