The Northern

A Byron Bay hotel on Jonson Street, first licensed in 1892 and rebuilt after fire in 1936. Out the back is The Backroom — a purpose-built band room from 1994 that's become one of the country's significant live music rooms, with Paul Kelly, Billy Bragg, Fat Freddies Drop and Ocean Alley among those who've played it. The front bar runs Northern Rivers blues, folk and rock most nights, and a duelling-piano bar has run since 2021.
