Trevor Wright, who gained his pilot's licence at 16, founded Wrightsair with his wife Maryanne in 1992, flying out of William Creek, the small Outback South Australian settlement closest to Kati Thanda-Lake Eyre. The fleet has grown to include Cessna 208B Grand Caravans, GA8 Airvans, and a run of smaller Cessnas — 210s, 207s, 206s, 182s and 172s — flown by commercial bush pilots out of William Creek, Coober Pedy and Wilpena Pound Resort. Flights specialise in Lake Eyre and the Anna Creek Painted Hills, with routes also reaching the Flinders Ranges and Coongie Lakes; Wrightsair maintains relationships with the cattle stations and Traditional Owners whose country the flights pass over. In 2023 Wright installed a 300-panel solar array that made William Creek, in his words, "the only Solar Powered town in S.A.," serving the roughly 29,000 tourists who pass through each year. Wrightsair has won the South Australian Tourism Award for Major Tour and Transport Operator three years running, 2016 to 2018, and been inducted into the state's Tourism Hall of Fame.
