Open eucalypt forest of stringybark, red gum and ironbark covers this box-ironbark park between Chiltern and Beechworth in north-east Victoria, which holds the richest tally of mammals, birds and reptiles recorded at any site of its kind, more than two hundred bird species among them. A short climb reaches the 545-metre summit of Mount Pilot and its 360-degree view, while longer tracks like the Whitebox walk thread the woodland. At Yeddonba, Aboriginal rock art survives; prospecting is allowed in marked areas.
