A small Aboriginal-owned centre in the remote community of Engawala, reached along the Plenty Highway from Alice Springs, where Anmatjeere artists paint their Country. The work reaches for particular local subjects, the ancient fossil beds at nearby Alcoota, bush tucker, healing plants and body-painting traditions, rather than generic desert imagery. A verified Indigenous Art Code member that welcomes travellers to meet the artists in person, it rewards the detour off the bitumen with art tied closely to one patch of desert.
