In the highlands around Glen Innes, the most prolific sapphire country in New South Wales, this roadside site lets the public work the creek gravels where the water passes beneath Wellingrove bridge. Sieving and panning the wash by hand can turn up the district's deep royal-blue sapphires, along with zircon. No fossicking licence is required on open Crown land in New South Wales, so a sieve and a bucket are enough to try your luck beside the crossing.
