Former aircraft engineer Andy Coates makes small-batch mead from locally sourced raw honey — including from his own hives — at Queensland's first dedicated meadery and cellar door. The tradition runs deep: Andy's grandfather Dennis "Poppo" Coates started making mead in 1934. The house style has since won gold in Australia and at Kraków's international mead competition. Andy's partner Nicola, a qualified chef, leads flavour development.
