TABLE ATLAS · PICK YOUR OWN

Berrylicious Strawberries

SOUTHERN HIGHLANDS, NSW

Rows of strawberry plants hang at chest height inside covered tunnels on this Buxton property, an hour and a quarter from Sydney's inner west — a growing method that keeps the fruit clean of soil-borne pests and means picking goes ahead rain or shine. Sessions are timed and ticketed, announced and booked through the farm's Facebook page, and they fill quickly once posted; turning up unannounced isn't an option. Once inside, picking is unlimited for the length of the session, with boxed strawberries, jams and honey available to take home afterward. It was among the first operations to bring pick-your-own strawberries to Sydney's outer west, having started nearby in Thirlmere before moving to its current Buxton site, and remains one of the more distinctive for its elevated, tunnel-grown plants. A booked-out weekend outing for Sydney families rather than a casual drive-by stop — check the Facebook page for the next release of sessions.
