Cairns & Tropical North, QLD
The 1907 School of Arts building holds more than 100,000 items — archives, photographs, objects — spanning a geographic arc from Cardwell to the Torres Strait and west to Normanton. Run by roughly fifty volunteers under the Cairns Historical Society (est. 1958), it's the only community social history repository of its size outside Brisbane. The photographic collection alone has been assessed as nationally significant.
