Former RAAF officer Damion Fauser spent 20 years in uniform — East Timor, Iraq, Sudan, Afghanistan — before turning to furniture. A United Nations disarmament posting in South Sudan, where he helped establish a teak and mahogany furniture program for former soldiers, sparked the obsession. From his Willawong studio, he works slab timber down by machine then finishes joints and surfaces by hand, a method shaped by mentors including Garrett Hack and Robert Howard.
