Six kilometres north of Rockhampton, on land that still holds the ceremonial rings of the Darambul people, this 12-hectare centre opened in 1988 under Prime Minister Hawke. The Ted Mitchell Gallery runs 34 metres of reconstructed sandstone caves. The Torres Strait complex — expanded in 1992 — includes traditional huts and a giant dugong. One of the more structurally serious Indigenous cultural sites in regional Queensland.
