Australia's first institutionally backed avant-garde gallery, and the model for the contemporary art spaces that followed. Its directors founded Art Almanac in 1974; the Women's Art Register started here; Judy Annear left to found Artspace and Juliana Engberg to run ACCA. Baudrillard, Spivak and Lucy Lippard all spoke here. It now shows University of Melbourne students — free, weekdays, semester only.
