Know before you go. The pools sit on the Grand Canyon track, which follows Greaves Creek down from the Grand Canyon car park on Evans Lookout Road, Blackheath — about 5km in and out, descending through a rock tunnel into rainforest and climbing back up at Evans lookout. Nearby routes are affected by rockfall: the Govetts descent and parts of Rodriguez Pass are closed, so check alerts before you go. The water here is cold and there are no facilities on the track.

Deep in the Grand Canyon walk near Blackheath, Greaves Creek carves through the Blue Mountains sandstone in a series of cool, tannin-tinged pools shaded by dripping ferns and hanging swamps. The rock pools reward walkers who tackle the steep Grand Canyon circuit - one of the finest short walks in the mountains - with a place to cool off deep in the gorge. The forest here is a green, mossy world far below the plateau rim. Come prepared for the climb out; the descent is the easy part.
