Rising as a great granite plateau above the Ovens Valley near Bright, Mount Buffalo is one of Victoria's oldest and best-loved national parks. Weathered tors and cliffs ring the tableland, the Gorge drops away in sheer walls beloved of rock climbers and hang-gliders, and the summit of the Horn gives a view across the alps. In winter the plateau turns to a gentle snowfield; in the warmer months wildflowers fill the heath and walkers explore granite lookouts and the still waters of Lake Catani. The grand old chalet on the edge recalls a century of mountain holidays. It is an alpine world within easy reach.
