On the arid plains of the Harts Range district, reached by a track off the Plenty Highway east of the Gemtree Caravan Park, this declared fossicking area centres on Zircon Hill. Diggers sieve the weathered gravels, wet and dry, for the field's namesake gem, turning up orange, honey, pink and colourless zircon crystals, some doubly terminated. Waterworn stones settle in the flats below. The ground was excised from Alcoota Station for public fossicking, and bush camping is permitted across the field.
