On Stoney Road in Gnangara, a shed stacked with local fruit, vegetables and farm eggs stays open through the week, but the reason most people find the place is the strawberry patch out back, opened for picking on Saturdays through spring once the crop is ready, typically September into November, weather and demand permitting. Pickers fill their own boxes for a flat cash price and can keep going until the rows are picked out, which on a good weekend happens well before the posted closing time. Outside the picking season, the shed keeps trading through the week, selling produce grown on and around the property. It's an unpretentious, cash-in-hand operation rather than a manicured agritourism stop, and one of a couple of strawberry farms working the sandy country around Gnangara, a pocket of market gardens on Perth's northern fringe easy to overlook from the highway.
