Pie &Pastry Paradise

The Berkhout family trace their baking back to Dordrecht in Holland in 1902, and have been at it in Hervey Bay since 2001, long enough to make the pie the town's signature bake. From the Main Street shopfront in Pialba, with two further outlets across Scarness and Urangan, come steak, mince and chicken pies, sausage rolls, artisan breads and European-style pastries and desserts from beestings to brownies. The pies have been entered in the National Great Aussie Pie Contest every year since 2002 and have medalled each time, and the bakery has been recognised by the National Baking Industry Association. It remains an independent, family-run operation rather than a franchise, and is routinely named among the region's best. A working bakery where the awards are earned in the oven.
