Chelly and Peter Gray have been bending rusty fencing wire into sculpture since the early 1990s — birdcages, candelabras, fire screens, chandeliers — work that eventually landed a 66-piece order from the Guggenheim. Their restored 1860s miner's cottage in Castlemaine now holds three gallery spaces and a garden full of metal flowers. The wire, they'll tell you, was once a fence.
