Alluvial gold, first found here in 1868, still draws fossickers to the creek gravels about 40 kilometres west of Warwick, on the old Warwick goldfields. The country is Devonian sandstone, slate and chert cut by gold-bearing quartz reefs, the creek winding north toward the historic Leyburn field. It's an easy day trip from Warwick and a popular general-permission area, though camping isn't allowed and there are no facilities on site. Bring a licence, a pan and your own water.
