John Re pawned his wife Maria's wedding ring to move his fledgling grocery into a proper shopfront in 1936, and the deli that grew from it is still family-run today, four generations on, currently overseen by siblings Moreno, Lorenzo and Maria Berti. The front of house is classic Italian delicatessen — house-made pasta, cured meats, cheese, and continental rolls the family is credited with popularising in Perth in the late 1940s, turning out some 800 a day across both stores. Behind it sits a bottle shop leaning heavily on Italian wine and Champagne alongside craft beer, assembled with the same care as the food counter. Nearly ninety years in, it remains one of Leederville's few multi-generation family businesses on a strip that has otherwise turned over many times, with a second outpost in Northbridge extending the same formula. Open six days, closed Sundays and Mondays.
