The building at 252 Flinders Street opened on 2 December 1889 as the Townsville General Post Office, its clock tower imported from England in 1891, dismantled in 1942 over fears it would draw bombs, and rebuilt in 1963. The Ramm family converted it into a brewery in 2001; the Bredhauer family took over in 2020 and still run it as an independent, family-owned operation, with a brewpub, Restaurant 1889 and the Banquet Centre event hire space under the one roof.
