Mae bought 5.6 hectares of coastal bushland at Venus Bay in 1983 and lived on it for a decade in a basic campsite before building the cottage that's now Venus Bay Eco Retreat. The land is under a Trust for Nature conservation covenant — protected in perpetuity. One two-storey timber cottage, adults-only, with picture windows over a banksia forest and a watering hole that pulls in kangaroos, wombats and rosellas. Solar power, rainwater bath, organic everything. Mae lives a few metres away and hosts in person — that's the point, not a flaw. Advanced Ecotourism accredited. Cape Liptrap and Anderson Inlet are within walking distance.
