Yankee HatWalk

CANBERRA DISTRICT, ACT

An easy walk across the grassy Boboyan valley in the south of Namadgi National Park leads to the Yankee Hat rock-art shelter, where ochre paintings of people, animals and tracks record thousands of years of Aboriginal presence in the high country. The flat track crosses wetland and open plain rich in kangaroos, with the granite dome of Yankee Hat rising ahead. The art is protected behind a low barrier and interpreted with care. It is a gentle, moving introduction to the deep human history of the Namadgi ranges, and one of the most accessible rock-art sites in the region.
