Donnellys Castle

花岗岩地带, POZIERES, QUEENSLAND

A cluster of massive granite boulders near Pozieres, a short drive from Stanthorpe on the Granite Belt — no castle, despite the name, which honours early settler Ned Donnelly. The crown recreation reserve is a warren of hidden passageways and stacked rock that once served as a hideout for the bushranger Thunderbolt, who ranged across the New England Tableland. A 200-metre walk leads to the top for views over the surrounding country, the boulders as spectacular as some of Girraween's formations but easier for young explorers to scramble over. Picnic tables and barbecues are provided, and entry is free.
