In state forest on the Cunningham Highway about 27 kilometres west of Warwick, some fifty square kilometres has been released as general-permission ground for recreational gold fossicking. Three formed routes lead in off the highway, and vehicles must keep to the roads and tracks within the forest. There are no facilities and camping is not permitted inside, though Warwick's caravan parks and motels lie a short drive east. A Queensland fossicking licence is required.
