Deep in the Gulf country of the remote north-west, Boodjamulla (Lawn Hill) National Park is an oasis of emerald water and red sandstone. Spring-fed Lawn Hill Creek has cut a gorge through the ranges, its jade-green water fringed with cabbage palms and figs and best explored by canoe beneath the towering walls. Walking tracks climb to lookouts over the gorge and lead to the Wild Dog Dreaming rock art, and the World Heritage fossil fields of Riversleigh lie nearby. The contrast of green water and dry spinifex country is extraordinary. It is one of the great wild places of outback Queensland.
