The road to Woods Point still runs an hour or more over the Great Dividing Range's high, unsealed tracks, and the pub at the end of it has welcomed four-wheel drivers, motorcyclists and country tourers since a licence was first taken out here in 1862, in a building rebuilt in the 1940s. The bar is filled with memorabilia from the gold-town years, and behind the counter sits a keg of the house's own Tear Arse Gully Port. Twelve guest rooms, five with ensuites, plus a separate three-bedroom cabin, let visitors stay the extra day the drive in deserves; a beer garden and dining room round out a classic bush-pub circuit. Currently trading four days a week and voted Best Bush Pub in the Victorian High Country's 2024 awards, it remains one of the more improbable places in the state to find a cold beer. Bridge Street, Woods Point — the last stop before the range closes back in.
