Czech immigrant Paul Osicka planted here in 1955; his grandson Simon now makes the wines. The vines — unirrigated, grown on sandy loam over quartz and red ironstone gravels — are hand-pruned, shoot-thinned and hand-picked. The result is small, concentrated fruit and reds of uncommon density. Heathcote's oldest estate, and still its most idiosyncratic.
