Built from local stone in the 1820s, Richmond Gaol sits on Bathurst Street in one of Tasmania's oldest intact Georgian towns — a Coal River Valley settlement that began as a military staging post linking Hobart to Port Arthur. The gaol's fabric is the exhibit: cold walls, convict heritage, and a history that doesn't require much embellishment.
