South of Darwin near Berry Springs, the Territory Wildlife Park is devoted entirely to the animals and habitats of the Top End, spread across four hundred hectares of natural bushland. A free shuttle train loops the site, linking a walk-through aviary in a monsoon forest, a nocturnal house, and an aquarium where a clear tunnel passes beneath a billabong of barramundi, sawfish and freshwater crocodiles. Wetland boardwalks and woodland trails show the country as it is. It is the finest introduction to the wildlife of the tropical north, and a cool, shaded escape from the Darwin heat.
