Christine and Graham's 36-acre Branxholm property runs a small herd of alpacas — currently twelve, including founding pair Camelia and Boxer — whose fleeces are hand-washed in rainwater, opened, and carded into roving using a cottage-scale mill. Power comes from on-site micro-hydro and solar. The roving arrives flecked with red Tasmanian soil, because the animals free-range and swim in the creek. That's not a flaw; it's the record of where it came from.
