One of Australia's oldest art centres sits on Bathurst Island, producing ochre paintings on bark and canvas, ironwood carvings, screen-printed fabrics, ceramics, and bronze and glass sculptures. Designs like Wanarringa Sun and Old Bark trace back to the early 1970s — Bede Tungatalum and Vivian Kernauia among the original artists. The work is Tiwi, specific, and still made here.
