East of Albany on the wild south coast, Two Peoples Bay protects a curve of white sand and turquoise water beneath the granite dome of Mount Gardner, and a coastal heath of extraordinary importance. It was here, in 1961, that the noisy scrub-bird - long thought extinct - was rediscovered, and the reserve remains a last refuge for it and for Gilbert's potoroo, one of the world's most endangered mammals. Walking tracks lead to lookouts and secluded beaches, and the swimming at Little Beach is as beautiful as any in the state. It is conservation and coastal beauty in one.
