Derek and Laura's Swan Valley property has been growing Shiraz since their first vintage in 1997, adding Spanish variety Tempranillo in 2006 after Derek's stint at London wine merchant Oddbins sparked the idea. The cellar door sits open to the vineyard on three sides. The river still floods occasionally — a levee bank now protects the Tempranillo vines.
