An island nature reserve off Narooma on the NSW south coast, reached only by commercial tour vessels working under contract to the parks service. Hundreds of Australian fur seals haul out on its rocks; more than ninety bird species have been recorded here, nineteen of them nesting over summer, with little penguins among the colonies. The island's historic lighthouse keeps two keepers' cottages for overnight stays, and whales pass within sight on migration.
